Prim’s death felt so forced. On one end the impact of her death contributes to grim realization that war produces casualties. On the other, it was lacking affect other than to create a rift between Gale and Katniss that would make it nearly impossible for them to remain close friends. A great deal of uncertainty concerning Coin ultimately arose from the bombing, leading to her death; but that could have been achieved without Prim dying. It caused for a bittersweet end, as Katniss more and less loses everyone from her life before the games.
I just really liked Boggs. He could have made a solid mentor and friend for both Katniss and Gale at the conclusion of the rebellion.

I would say what I dislike most about the series is the ending, specifically how all of a sudden Katniss just blacks out and the rebels win and it’s basically over. Even Catching Fire seemed rushed to me. I felt Collins’ got bored writing the story or didn’t have an idea of where the story could go so the series was ended in just three books.
Also, by the end I had grown detached from Katniss rather than attached more. While she obviously grows so much as a person throughout the books, by the epilogue of Mockingjay it’s as if all that growth was washed away. I didn’t feel her love for Peeta or even for her children, I didn’t feel she was even content with life. It’s clear Collins’ endgame was always Katniss and Peeta, which is fine, but even them together felt cheapened and all too fast.
I disliked how none of the other characters were mentioned and again feel like Collins’ got lazy and put them into other districts to not have to write about them. The end just irks me because so much is left unsaid and all characters seemed a little out of a character to me.

Day 10: Peeta or Gale
I have a lot of Gale feelings, so I’ll try and keep this short. Overall, I liked Gale more because he’s flawed, he’s honorable, he’s realistic, he’s a man’s man. Peeta’s presented as perfect and although the character allows for a lot of emotions to arise in readers, I’m not big on ones who are “too good to be true”.
I envisioned Gale so vividly, despite already knowing that Liam would play him in the movies. To me, Gale is kind and loving, good with kids, having 3 younger siblings, and quite protective. He’s not about any bull and tells you how it is, whether you want to hear or not. He completely understood the concept of sacrifice, I think even more than Peeta or Katniss did at times. Gale was willing to give up his happiness, safety, freedom, life, and love to help set the people of Panem free. He’s written beautifully and his character is my ideal friend and lover.

“Having an eye for beauty isn’t the same thing as a weakness. Except possibly when it comes to you,” Peeta (p. 211).
I’m not even much of a romantic, but Peeta has some great lines and as it’s often mentioned in the book, he has a way with words.

Day 8: The character you are most like
I don’t think I’m most like any one character, mainly bits and pieces of a few characters (Peeta, Katniss, and Gale). I love joking around though and am always trying to lighten up situations, which I feel is somewhat similar to Peeta.
I’m a chameleon, so personality wise I fit a lot of the characters. I connected most with Gale, however, so in terms of beliefs and action, I am most like him.

I lift my chin, holding my head high the way he always tells me to, and wait for the plate to rise. But it doesn’t. And it still doesn’t.
I look at Cinna, raising my eyebrows for an explanation. He just gives his head a slight shake, as perplexed as I am. Why are they delaying this?
Suddenly the door behind him bursts open and three Peacekeepers spring into the room. Two pin Cinna’s arms behind him and cuff him while the third hits him in the temple with such force he’s knocked to his knees. But they keep hitting him with metal-studded gloves, opening gashes on his face and body. I’m screaming my head off, banging on the unyielding glass, trying to reach him. The Peacekeepers ignore me completely as they drag Cinna’s limp body from the room. All that’s left are the smears of blood on the floor.
I actually got most emotional during Mockingjay but can’t recall specific accounts! Poor memory. I do remember feeling awful when Cinna died. I knew the first time the quote, “Don’t worry. I always channel my emotions into my work. That way I don’t hurt anyone but myself” was mentioned, Cinna’s future was short. When he turned the wedding dress into the mockingjay outfit, I was a goner! Cinna had Katniss’ back the entire time, never lied to her, and always believed in her. Cinna stood for justice and freedom and knew he would have to sacrifice to help the revolution (Katniss!)
